Unimportant Favorite Things

I've actually been personally tagged for a meme! I only personally know two people that blog. . . well, three if you count my husband, but I don't see him ever getting into a meme. . . and one of them, Sarah at How I Pinch a Penny, tagged me for this Unimportant Favorite Things meme.



So, here are my six unimportant favorite things:

1. Little pre-cut, pre-packaged cardstock squares that you get in the scrapbook section of a store. Do I use them to scrapbook with? Absolutely not! Who has time for that? I write Bible verses on them and tape them around the house or use them for flash cards for G or use them to write lists on when I need an added dose of inspiration.


2. Hulu. One of my favorite pastimes with J is to sit in bed at night after the kids go to bed and catch up on favorite TV shows -- our favorites are The Office, Friday Night Lights, Prison Break, and Damages. (We also enjoy watching Crusoe with the kids.)


3. The sprayer attatchement to the hose -- with all those different spray options. Not only is it fun to water plants with. . . It is best for playing with the kids. I either hold it out and let them run through, or set it on jet and play tag with them (though I'm always it), or, on those really hot days, I'll aim it straight up and let it rain on all of us.


4. Vacuuming. It is my favorite chore. I like being able to see and hear that my cleaning is making a difference.


5. Food. This is sort of a confession too. I love food, which is why I'll never diet. It would be like breaking up with a great boyfriend. Sometimes, when chatting with J, I'll randomly go off on a tangent about foods I want to eat soon and he laughs at my unnatural love of food. If I could have anything I want to eat today I'd have Chili's chips and salsa for an appetizer, pizza from a good pizza place for lunch, and a fried brownie sundae from Garfield's for dessert (I'm gonna make that on my own one day).
6. Baby Toes. Who doesn't love baby toes? And by baby toes I mean the toes of babies, not little adult toes. Cause those are gross.

20 Happy Things

1. A little moment of quiet time with God on the couch every afternoon -- just when I need it most.
2. Getting to explore the great faith questions of life with my children -- and asking God for the wisdom to answer correctly.
3. Knowing my husband and I have stayed married for a whole 10 years.
4. Knowing just how much cream my husband likes in his coffee -- enough to make it the color of our living room walls.
5. A big cozy hug from hubby.
6. A big sloppy kiss for hubby.
7. G's sense of humor and his contagious laugh and toothless grin.
8. The time that my Teeny puts into folding her clothes and cleaning her room -- once she finally gets over her hysterics and decides to do it.
9. Watching Bud-Jack run around the house pretending to be Indiana Jones -- complete with theme song.
10. Clapping hands and saying, "Yay!" with M&M.
11. My pantry (thanks to my husband and father-in-law for figuring out how to get it into the kitchen for me).
12. Books. Even better, a good book and a cozy bed and sunny day outside an open window.
13. Our sunroom and spring making a perfect match.
14. A long, hot shower.
15. Chocolate in the form of Sees Nuts and Chews or Ben and Jerry's Half-Baked.
16. That first moment when I get to my parents house for a visit and they both give us all big hugs around the neck and I know that I was missed and that I am wanted and welcome.
17. An unexpected e-mail from an old friend.
18. Sharing memories with J and the kids.
19. Making memories with J and the kids.
20. Counting my blessings -- I should do this every day!

Found this fun meme over at my friend, The Pocono Princess's, blog. It was much more fun to do with G than with Teeny. G laughed his way through it. Teeny *literally* writhed on the floor as if she were in physical pain. Answering questions is not her gift. She's a creative one -- draws beautifully; but I don't think she'll be doing many interviews when she becomes a famous artist or illustrator.

G -- If I do something for you. If I help you clean up.

Unfortunately. . .

I found this at Rosetta Stone, an absolutely wonderful blog -- Michelle is hilarious and has such a great attitude and outlook on life. Anyway, the idea is that you google, in quotes, "Unfortunately, (your name)" and see what pops up. Here are a few that came up for me:

Unfortunately, Realmomma’s early vaccine induced damage led to PANDAS syndrome, severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, ADHD, an anxiety disorder, and motor tics. (Yes, this sounds more like me. . . unfortunately.)

. . . And now, unfortunately, Realmomma has way to many items on her agenda for the day to be sitting around blogging any longer. . .

A Fall Meme

It is *finally* the first day of Autumn. Don't you just love it. I'm eagerly anticipating falling leaves, apples and pumpkins, Halloween, G's birthday, and Thanksgiving. . . Thank you to Dawn at By Sun and Candlelight for this meme. Tag yourself if you have a blog.

When does fall begin for you? The first day of September.
What is your favorite aspect of fall? How this season has such a unique way of capturing the senses. Bright changing leaves look lovely against the gray sky. Burning wood and leaves never smell so good at any other time of year. The crunch of dried up leaves under my feet as I walk. Tasty apple and pumpkin goodies mixed with the perfect dose of cinnamon lure me. And, ah, the feel of thick warm sweater paired with a cold north wind against my face is like no other.
What is your favorite fall memory? G's birth. It was a typically dreary fall day, full of rain and gray skies; but he was a bright ray of sunshine -- my first-born.
What do you like to drink in the fall? While I love hot cider, I had a frozen cider slushie at a farm-market two years ago and thought it was to-die-for. I'm gonna have to figure out how to make my own.
What's your favorite fall food? Just one? We have a traditional "First of Fall" meal here: Harvest Stew with crusty bread and butter followed by a Perfect Apple Pie topped with Butter Pecan Ice Cream. I'll post the recipes later. We're having it Saturday when we'll celebrate the first weekend of Autumn.
What is fall weather like where you live? This is our first fall in South-Central Pennsylvania. Hoping it cool and crisp with gloomy gray skies and changing leaves.
What color is fall? Red and orange leaves, scarlet and golden mums, blue Michaelmas daisies, and gray skies.
What does fall smell like? Smoke, baked goods, and tangy applesauces and ciders.
Holiday shopping in fall: yes or no? Eh, I'd rather be baking. But the shopping must get done -- *before* Thanksgiving.
If you could go anywhere in the fall, where would you go? I sort of miss the beauty of the Blue Ridge when the leaves change.
What is your favorite fall sport? Football, I suppose. I prefer a local high-school football game though.
Do you have a favorite fall chore? Raking leaves. . . so as to jump into them, of course.
What is your least favorite thing about fall? Unfortunately, I had an emotionally rough fall many years ago. The fight to keep those memories from putting a damper on the season has, fortunately, gotten much easier over time.
What is your favorite fall holiday? Thanksgiving, of course.
What's your favorite kind of pie? All of them? Actually, I love a good Shoo-Fly Pie with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream -- but I'm not sure that has much to do with fall.
What was your favorite Halloween costume? I just remember seeing pictures of myself when I was four or five in a Raggedy Ann costume that, I believe, my mom made. I don't remember how I felt about it then, but the pics look great.
What was your favorite Halloween candy? Mary Janes and those cheap, chewy, filled-with-fake-peanut butter candies that are wrapped in orange and black.
What was your least favorite Halloween candy? Chewing gum that goes under the guise of bubble gum. You know that stuff that begins to give your jaw cramps after about a minute of chewing?
Which do you prefer, the Farm or the Fair? The farm.
Do you have a favorite fall book? Fall always puts me in the mood for Anne of Green Gables.
How about a favorite fall poem? How 'bout music? Fall also always puts me in the mood for James Taylor.
