Simple Woman's Daybook ~~ Vacation!!!

For Today, April 5,2009:
Outside My Window...
It's a slightly wet, windy day here on the Outer Banks. I think we'll be finding alternative diversions today.

I am thinking...
That I feel a little under the weather; but everyone else seems to be doing fine, so I'm happy.

I am thankful for...
The off-season. I prefer vacationing at the beach when it is a little more "vacant". Adds to the feeling of serenity.

From the learning rooms...
We are technically taking the week off, but learning happens every day. This week our learning room is the shore. We are writing letters in the sand and beginning to sound out three-letter words, collecting shells and talking about sea life. . . We have The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on Hand (and a few picture books) for reading. And we might even make day trip over to the historic Roanoke Island.

From the kitchen...
Our beach house meal philosophy: Easy breakfasts, easy lunches, occasional out-to-early-bird-specials, and for dinner. . . "fancy" meals for the parents and lunchables for the kids. Oh, and way more junk food than is good for us.

I am wearing...
Gray knit pants and 3/4 sleeve blue tee.

I am creating...
Memories!

I am going...
Nowhere!

I am reading...
Genesis 12-50
The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
What Is a Family? by Edith Schaeffer

I am hoping...
To feel better soon so I can better enjoy this vacation.

I am hearing...
Some PBS kids show. We don't really have TV at home (just DVDs) so this whole cable thing is a nice treat this week. The kids are getting to watch lots of Nick, Disney, and PBS. I'm catching up on Food Network and Little People Big World. J and I will actually get to watch The Office on Thursday and Friday Night Lights on Friday!

Around the house...
Care for a tour? There is a grill outside "under" the house along with a shower and a car port area. When you enter the house you go up some stairs to the bedroom level. There is laundry and utility area. The three older kids are staying in a room with two bunk beds. Teeny is loving that. Their bathroom is across the hall. M&M is staying in a room of her own across the hall from the master bedroom and attatched bath. Outside our room is a deck with a "hot pool" as the kids like to call it. The top level is the living area with another full bath and bedroom. There is also a small kitchen and a great room with a huge dining table. And you can walk out of the living area onto another deck with a nice view of the lake. You can even see a bit of both shores (the ocean and the sound).

One of my favorite things...
A baby's first tottering steps. M&M had her's here at the vacation home yesterday. . . so cute.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:
None!
(We will not yet speak of the trip home. Sshh.)

Here is picture thought I am sharing...
Pictures will have to wait till next week. We're getting plenty, but I'm not uploading to the laptop. . .
. . . 'till then, stop by Peggy's for more daybook entries.

Sounds wonderful. I so love beach houses. Hopefully one day my kids will get the experience also. Love your picture in your title.
